Starting With The Practice
Breaking routines and embracing an odyssey of self-discovery through writing.
Albert Einstein's words have been resonating within me lately: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results." His words resonate in my mind these days.
When I started this blog, "Food Odyssey," I had grand intentions of delving into the world of culinary delights and sharing my food experiences. But as the weeks passed by, my intentions remained just that—intentions. I'd begin each week with 'writing a blog post' on my to-do list, only to find myself at the week's end with no new content to show. It's as if I were stuck in a cycle, repeating the same approach but somehow expecting a different outcome. As Einstein would say, that's a form of insanity.
Currently, my bottleneck is simply not having the habit of sitting down and writing for this blog. So, even if my initial posts aren't solely about food, they still represent an odyssey—a journey of learning and self-discovery.
Commencing something new necessitates the establishment of a practice. You must create a habit and allocate dedicated time for what you aim to learn. This can be challenging, and the mental barriers may incite procrastination. To overcome this, work on reducing the friction – find ways to make it easier by setting specific limits. Every situation is unique and requires a distinct approach, but the essential point is to create a practice. If you don't do it, you won't learn, you won't grow.
I'm now returning to the drawing board, getting back up and trying a different way. If this approach doesn't work, then I must explore another path and keep going until I make it work. Why do I share this with you? Partly because we're in this together, writer and reader, in a mutual relationship. On the other side, there's accountability. I've promised to write, and now I must deliver on that promise. With this out there, I leave myself no other option but to write.
